Frequency Converter
Convert frequencies for audio, radio, computing and rotating machinery. Revolutions per minute are included because engine and disk speeds are quoted that way, and one rpm is simply one sixtieth of a hertz.

Worked examples
A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band in megahertz
- 2.4 × 1000 = 2400
2,400 MHz.
An engine at 3,000 rpm in hertz
- 3000 ÷ 60 = 50
50 Hz — fifty revolutions every second.
Notes and limitations
- One hertz is one cycle per second. Revolutions per minute divide by 60 to reach hertz.
- Processor clock speeds in GHz describe cycles, not instructions. A faster clock does not mean proportionally faster work, since a chip may do more or less per cycle.
- Human hearing covers roughly 20 Hz to 20 kHz, with the upper limit falling with age.
Frequently asked questions
How many hertz are in a megahertz?
One million. A gigahertz is a thousand megahertz.
How do I convert rpm to hertz?
Divide by 60, because there are 60 seconds in a minute. 1,800 rpm is 30 Hz.
Does a higher GHz mean a faster computer?
Not on its own. Clock speed is cycles per second, but how much work a processor does per cycle varies enormously between designs. Comparing GHz across different chip generations tells you very little.
