What these tools are good for, and where you should not rely on them.

Last updated: 12 August 2026

What we do claim

The calculations and conversions here use standard, published formulas, and each tool states the formula it uses so you can check it. The underlying logic is covered by automated tests, including tests for the edge cases that commonly go wrong: division by zero, leap years, absolute zero, and the difference between US and imperial measures.

Where a result depends on a convention that differs between countries — how mortgage interest compounds, which BMI thresholds apply, whether a gallon is 3.785 or 4.546 litres — the convention in use is named on the page rather than assumed.

What we do not claim

We do not claim the results are correct for every situation, and no tool here is certified, audited or approved by any authority. A formula can be implemented perfectly and still give an answer that is wrong for your circumstances, because it does not know your circumstances.

Financial tools

The loan, mortgage, interest and return calculators produce estimates based on the figures you enter. They do not include fees, taxes, insurance, early repayment charges or the specific terms of any product, and they assume a rate that does not change. A lender's own figure will differ, and their figure is the one that counts.

Nothing on this site is financial advice, a quotation, or an offer of credit. Speak to a qualified adviser before making a decision that matters.

Health tools

The BMI and calorie calculators are general-population screening estimates. BMI cannot distinguish muscle from fat and is not valid for children, pregnancy, or people at the extremes of height. Calorie needs vary between individuals by more than any equation predicts.

These tools are not medical advice, not a diagnosis, and not a substitute for a doctor or a registered dietitian. Do not use them to make decisions about a medical condition.

Developer tools

The JWT decoder reads a token; it does not verify its signature and therefore proves nothing about whether a token is genuine. Base64 and URL encoding are encodings, not encryption, and provide no confidentiality whatsoever.

Although these tools run entirely in your browser, the general principle stands: do not paste live production secrets into any third-party website, including this one.

Please check anything that matters

  • For a financial decision, use your lender's or provider's own figures.
  • For a health decision, speak to a clinician.
  • For a legal or tax question, speak to a professional in your jurisdiction.
  • For engineering or safety-critical work, verify against an authoritative reference.
