QR Code Generator

Type a link or some text, or enter your Wi-Fi details, and the QR code appears as you type. The code is drawn in your browser, so a Wi-Fi password never leaves your device, and the code works for ever — it does not route through anyone's server.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose what the code should hold: a link or text, or a Wi-Fi network.
  2. Type the link or text, or the network name, security type and password.
  3. Pick an error-correction level. Medium suits most uses; choose High if the code might get scratched or you will put a logo over it.
  4. Pick a size — 1024 px for print — and optionally change the colours, keeping a dark code on a light background.
  5. Download the code as PNG, or SVG for printing at any size, and test it with your phone camera.

Formula and method

Wi-Fi format

WIFI:T:WPA;S:network name;P:password;;

The format that iPhone and Android cameras recognise. Semicolons, commas, colons, quotes and backslashes in the name or password are escaped with a backslash so they do not break it.

Worked examples

Wi-Fi for guests

  1. Network “Cafe; Guest”, WPA, password “welcome2026”

Guests scan the code and join the network without typing the password.

Notes and limitations

  • Codes made here are static: the content is inside the code itself. They never expire and cannot be tracked, but they also cannot be edited after printing.
  • More text makes a denser code that is harder to scan. Keep links short, and choose a lower error-correction level for long text.
  • Light codes on dark backgrounds, or low-contrast colours, fail on many scanners. The tool warns you when the colours look risky.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The link or text is stored in the pattern itself, so the code keeps working as long as the link it contains does. Services whose codes expire use “dynamic” codes that redirect through their own server.

Is it safe to make a Wi-Fi QR code here?

Yes. The code is generated in your browser and your password is not sent anywhere. Anyone who scans the printed code can join the network, so display it only where you would share the password.

What does error correction mean?

Extra data that lets a scanner read the code when part of it is damaged or covered: about 7% at Low, 15% at Medium, 25% at Quartile and 30% at High. Higher levels make a denser code.

PNG or SVG?

PNG for screens, documents and messages. SVG for print, because it stays sharp at any size, from a business card to a poster.
