GST Invoice Generator

Fill in your business, your customer and the items, and download a ready-to-send PDF invoice. GST is split into CGST and SGST or charged as IGST automatically from the two GSTINs, every GSTIN is checked for typos, and the total is written in words in lakh and crore. Nothing you type is uploaded or saved.

Invoice type

Charge GST only if you are registered for it. Without GST, the invoice carries no tax columns.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose “GST tax invoice” if you are registered for GST, or “Without GST” if you are not.
  2. Enter your business name, address and GSTIN, then your customer’s details. Add the customer’s GSTIN if they are registered.
  3. Set the invoice number and date. Numbers can be up to 16 characters of letters, digits, hyphens and slashes, such as INV/2026-27/001.
  4. Add each item with its HSN or SAC code, quantity, rate and GST rate. The totals update as you type.
  5. Add bank or UPI details and any terms, then press Create PDF invoice and download it.

Formula and method

Tax on each line

taxable value = quantity × rate · CGST = SGST = taxable × GST rate ÷ 2 · IGST = taxable × GST rate

Within a state, half the GST goes to the Centre (CGST) and half to the State (SGST, or UTGST in a union territory). To another state, the whole rate is charged as Integrated GST. The tax is rounded to the paisa on each line, as accounting software does, so the columns add up exactly.

Worked examples

Design work billed within Maharashtra

  1. 1 × ₹40,000 at 18%: taxable value ₹40,000
  2. CGST 9% = ₹3,600 · SGST 9% = ₹3,600

Invoice total ₹47,200 — “Rupees Forty-Seven Thousand Two Hundred Only”. Billed to a customer in Karnataka, the same invoice would show IGST 18% = ₹7,200 instead.

Notes and limitations

  • The invoice is drawn by your browser. Your GSTIN, customer details and bank account are not uploaded or stored — closing the tab clears them, so download the PDF before you leave.
  • The supply type follows the first two digits of the GSTINs, which are the state code. Without a customer GSTIN, choose the customer’s state yourself; inter-state invoices must name the place of supply.
  • Rule 46 of the CGST Rules lists what a tax invoice must contain — among them the supplier’s and registered recipient’s GSTINs, a serial number unique for the financial year, HSN or SAC codes, the taxable value and the tax split. This tool provides fields for each, but checking the entries are right is up to you.
  • Businesses whose turnover has exceeded ₹5 crore in any year since 2017-18 must e-invoice B2B supplies through the Invoice Registration Portal, which adds an IRN and QR code. This tool does not do that; it suits businesses below the threshold, and freelancers.
  • GSTIN checking catches typos with the number’s own check character. It cannot tell whether a GSTIN is registered or active — use the search on the GST portal for that.
  • If you are not registered for GST you must not charge it, so choose “Without GST”. Composition taxpayers issue a bill of supply rather than a tax invoice.
  • The PDF’s built-in fonts cover English and Western European letters. The ₹ sign is printed as “Rs.”, and Hindi or other scripts appear as “?” — the page warns you when that would happen.
  • GST rates offered are the slabs in force since 22 September 2025 (5%, 18%, 40%) plus 0% and the special rates for precious metals and stones. Confirm the rate for what you supply.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make an invoice without a GST number?

Yes. Choose “Without GST”: the invoice has no tax columns and no GSTIN, which is right for freelancers and small businesses below the registration threshold. You cannot charge GST without being registered.

When do I charge IGST instead of CGST and SGST?

When the place of supply is in a different state or union territory from yours. With both GSTINs entered, the tool decides from their state codes; otherwise choose where the customer is.

What is the difference between HSN and SAC?

HSN codes classify goods; SAC codes classify services and start with 99 — for example 998314 for IT design and development services. The number of digits required depends on your turnover.

Is my data saved anywhere?

No. Nothing is sent to a server or stored in your browser. Keep the downloaded PDF, because the form is empty again next time.

Can I add my logo or signature?

Not yet. The PDF leaves space above “Authorised signatory” for you to sign, or you can sign it digitally in your PDF reader.
